Fire Suppression & Safety

Fire Suppression & Safety is the largest of PFD’s operating units, with   over 140 uniformed firefighters, all cross-trained to operate all of the department’s equipment and apparatus. Firefighters are divided into three shifts, and work 24 hours on, and 48 hours off. The PFD provides a full range of emergency response services to its customers twenty four hours a day, seven days a week. 

  
In 2005, the PFD answered over 6,000 calls:

This division also keeps the Department’s commitment to firefighter health and safety by purchasing and maintaining personal protective equipment, and ensuring full compliance with all applicable workplace safety requirements.
