Rehabilitation Program

Is your home in need of a new roof, heating or cooling system, plumbing, electrical, or structural repairs?  If so, you may qualify for assistance through the City’s Housing Rehabilitation program.

Examples of repairs that can be made to your home include:

            Roof, Safety Rails on Porches/Steps, Floors, Structural Repairs, Walls, Grab Bars in Bathrooms, Windows, Doors, Heating/Cooling, Kitchens, Refrigerator, Range, Electrical Repairs, Plumbing Repairs, Insulation, Handicap Accessibility

Funds are available to qualified applicants of homestead property within the City limits in the form of a low interest loan, supplemented with a grant. If the price of repair costs does not exceed $33,000, interested homeowners may complete an application to verify eligibility. Call the Housing Department at 850-858-0350 for additional information regarding program eligibility requirements. Staff will answer any questions and schedule a skilled estimator and repair specialist to visit your home to see if the City can assist you under this program. 

The Housing Rehabilitation Program encompasses two additional programs, as well:

  • Handicap Accessibility Program - provides funding to make the unit handicap accessible for eligible families;
  • Temporary Relocation Program - provides assistance for the moving and storage of personal belongings and temporary lodging for the families during the rehabilitation process.

 

Eligibility Requirements

  •  Structure to be rehabilitated must be located within the City of Pensacola.
  •  Structure must be the Owner's homestead residence.
  • Owner must be fee simple owner of the property, and must have resided in the house to be rehabilitated for at least six months prior to making application.  
  • Owner must be able to provide verification sufficient to qualify as a lower income individual or family.*
  •  The credit history of the Owner must exhibit an ability to meet the requirements of  monthly and on-time loan repayments. 
  •  The structure to be rehabilitated must exhibit a minimum of two violations of the Standard Housing Code.  All violations of that Code must be able to be corrected for a price that will not exceed $33,000.
  • Rehabilitation work to be performed on the residence is governed by a Rehabilitation Work Contract between the Owner and a competent, properly licensed contractor of their choice.
