The City of Pensacola will be holding a public meeting on Tuesday, May 15th from 5:30-7:30 p.m. in the Whibbs Conference Room (1st floor of City Hall, 222 West Main Street) to discuss returning North Spring and North Baylen Streets to two-way traffic.
Residents and property owners along N. Spring and N. Baylen streets have expressed concerns with the speed of traffic and visibility for pedestrians. The Community Redevelopment Plan, adopted by the Pensacola City Council in 2010, recommended the return of two-way traffic to help reduce speeds, improve pedestrian safety, and provide increased dispersion of vehicle traffic. The City of Pensacola and the Community Redevelopment Agency are committed to enhancing the City’s neighborhoods and improving the quality of life for our residents and business owners, and the two-way conversion of Spring and Baylen Streets is an important step towards furthering these goals.
The engineering feasibility and conversion proposal have been approved by the Florida Department of Transportation, and the conversion of Spring and Baylen Streets will begin in June. The project is expected to take two to three months to complete.
Residents and property and business owners in and around the affected area (Strong to Garden) are encouraged to attend the informational meeting regarding the traffic flow changes and parking modifications. There will be no formal presentation; however, maps and drawings will be on display for review, and City representatives will be available to provide information on the project and answer questions. This meeting will allow citizens a one-on-one opportunity to review the proposed changes, ask specific questions, and /or submit comments concerning the project. Citizens and property owners are welcome to attend anytime from 5:30-7:30 p.m.
