As director of the Library System, Gene Fischer (850-436-5060) oversees four libraries within the city as well as two branches in Escambia County.

Gene, a native of New Orleans, graduated with a B.S. in Political Science from Tulane University in 1966. He served in the U.S. Army from 1967-70, then attended Louisiana State University, where he received an M.S. in Library Science in 1973. He was a library administrator in Virginia, Illinois and Indiana before coming to Pensacola as Library Superintendent in January 1988. He became Library Director in January 2000.
