Capt. Steve Johnson was born in Marinette, WI, and moved to Pensacola in 1976 while he was in the U.S. Marine Corps.
Before starting his law enforcement career, Capt. Johnson was stationed with the U.S. Marines in San Diego, CA, and Camp LeJune, N.C. He also was a drill instructor at Paris Island, S.C., and at the Pensacola Naval Air Station. Prior law enforcement experience included serving as a police officer with the U.S. Department of Defense from 1978 - 1980.
The Pensacola Police Department hired him as an officer in September 1980. Among his assignments have been Uniform Patrol, TAC and Investigations. His most recent assignment, before being promoted to captain and supervising ATSD, was a lieutenant in that division.
Capt. Johnson has an associate of science degree in law enforcement from Pensacola Junior College and a bachelor of science in criminal justice from Troy State.
