Al Garza

Al Garza was appointed on July 10, 2000 as Director of Public Works.
He has been employed with the City of Pensacola for 34 years beginning in October 1974, excluding a short three-year stay with ECUA as a result of an area wide utility operations consolidation in 1981.
He has lived in the Pensacola area since 1965, when his family moved here from Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Al is a graduate of W.J. Woodham H.S. 1968, Pensacola Junior College (A.A. Pre-Engineering) 1971, and the University of Florida (B.S Civil Engineering) 1974.
Licensed as a Professional Engineer (P.E.) with the State of Florida, and a senior member of the Florida Engineering Society for 35 years.
He enjoys youth and adult athletics, water sports, DeLuna Festival activities and extended distance bicycling (50 – 100 miles).
Al and his wife Marsha met in high school and were married in 1970. They have two sons Alfred III (1973) and Tony (1977), a law enforcement officer with the Pensacola Police department; and a daughter Melissa (1978) also a graduate of the University of Florida.
